EXPOSED: Everything Wrong About China
Updated: Feb 7
The ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic has made a huge impact on almost every major economy in the world. Some countries focused on curbing its spread while some preferred playing blame game. Stringent lockdown measures have certainly managed to aroused paranoia in some people while some took undue advantage of it to spread rumours.
Through this blog, I intend to share my perspective free from any bias and prejudice.
If I were to write on CCP’s (Chinese Communist Party) ambitions and its activities, both in China and abroad, then it would pile up to so much content that multiple volumes would have to be published. So, I would only mention often unnoticed and discrete activities which are not given much attention by mainstream media.
Hiding Facts and Figures
First of all, understand that there is no such thing as independent media in China, the media is completely in government control and there is no easy information coming out of China for this reason. Be it the Coronavirus statistics or any other matter, China has a history of hiding facts and figures from the rest of the world.
The CCP does not reveal China’s poverty conditions, its dangerous levels of air pollution, water contamination, executions among many other things, and also including important economic data.
They even misguide their students by publishing false information in textbooks. As per their textbooks, “Chinese socialism is the ideal form of Government and it does not fail like the western democracies.”
USA, India and many countries have great concerns regarding the cyber capabilities of China. One of the reasons for the trade war between USA and China was the involvement of Huawei. Though no concrete evidence was obtained, the infrastructure and software were found riddled with technical vulnerabilities.
It has also been alleged that Chinese software often contains backdoors which are exploited by hackers back in China. A lot of Chinese Internet Entrepreneurs have copied their models straight from Silicon Valley and other American and European companies.
Hiding facts and ongoing events abroad from its own citizens is also cyber espionage. Because the state-run media conceals facts and only shows positive or altered news about China.
As a matter of fact, even the online maps of China are highly skewed and inaccurate (even Google Maps of China). Only 6 Chinese national companies are allowed to make and publish maps of China.
Various organisations have also expressed security concerns regarding privacy and security issues of Chinese applications like TikTok, Zoom, etc.
Stealing Knowhows and Intellectual property
We all know China as the hub of manufacturing entities. All major electronics and consumer durables are manufactured there. And considering its population, it is obvious that every corporation will want to leverage that factor. But ever wondered how China can mass-produce so many products quickly and cheaply? Because it is said that if a company has 500 workers, 300 of them will be working on reverse engineering western products both military and commercial. Chances are, that your product may be copied before you even ship it!
The foreign corporations in China also have to comply with stringent rules and regulations such as sourcing raw materials from China, employing more Chinese labour and eventually such corporations are forced to give up their intellectual properties and knowhows.
The movie corporations also have to comply with such stringent rules. If a movie is to be made in China, then its lead cast has to include Chinese actors. And the CCP is so concerned about its image that it does not allow any movie to portray China as a villain. The plot of “Looper” had to be changed for it to be released in China.
Censorship in China
Censorship in the People's Republic of China (PRC) is implemented or mandated by the PRC's ruling party, the Communist Party of China (CPC). The government censors content for mainly political reasons, but also to maintain its control over the populace. The government maintains censorship over all media capable of reaching a wide audience. This includes television, print media, radio, film, theatre, text messaging, instant messaging, video games, literature, and the Internet. Chinese officials have access to uncensored information via an internal document system.
The people in China don’t have unrestricted access to information and are always misguided by the Chinese state-run media. Even the school curriculum contains CCP propaganda against the western countries and their economies.
Organ Trade in China
Although China has denied every allegation regarding its illegal harvesting and trade of organs, it has now been brought to light by many organisations, reporters and committees. The datasets of organ transplants performed have been falsified and manipulated. But the fact remains that thousands of Falun Gong Practitioners and other political prisoners are used to harvest organs.
Ambition for World Dominance
The CCP is very ambitious to gain global dominance but not in a healthy way. It had recently proposed its Belt and Road initiative which was supposed to connect countries and facilitate smooth trade. But the CCP had ulterior motives. China was providing massive loans to underdeveloped and developing countries and by the time those countries realised that they couldn’t pay it back, it was too late.
In return, China took control of strategic places of both commercial and military importance. Many countries took notice and have refused to take part in it, including India.
After considering CCP’s past behaviour and malpractices, it does not come as a surprise to many that the ongoing Coronavirus Crisis may also be a doing of CCP. However, Correlation does not mean Causation. Many pieces of research have also confirmed that it is impossible to generate COVID-19 in a lab. But many recent circumstantial shreds of evidence have cropped up which prove that China purportedly stayed quiet and let it spread, whereas it could have suppressed it at the source itself. Also, China has reported only around 82000 cases and around 4000 deaths in 3 months.
China may not have created it, but it definitely allowed it to spread globally.
